Candyman 2021 Review

The original Candyman was released in 1992, needless to say, I never watched it. When I was old enough to watch it, I lost interest because it was already over 10 years old and I didn’t care. NOW that I am an adult, I am feeling excited about this new iteration.

Let’s start with the introduction music! It is only appropriate to have “The Candyman Can” by Sammy Davis Jr. Only in this setting can a cheery song sound morbid!

I have to say, a few things that raised my eyebrow: why doesn’t Anthony go to the doctor when his hand starts rotting away? I’ve heard of “starving artist”, but this man isn’t even using Neosporin! Why is it that everyone who dies is white?

A few of the characters that say “Candyman” and actually don’t die. This is definitely not what I thought the movie was going to be, I thought this was going to be GORY and SCARY! It was supernatural and political.
